The tallow serpent makes its way / down iv'ry shaft of smoothness fay. / The crystal snake, it trickles down, / and finds itself upon the ground. / The serpent's length, unwinding thus, / enscribes a path in dry grey dust. / If it moves fast, it stays alive, / yet when it slows, it solid dries. / Transparent skin becomes opaque, / Hence the demise of waxen snake.
