We'll stuff ourselves right before we hike! hah ha! woo! thursday l ---------- we might be on top of a mountain, so sandwiches? water jolt would someone like to volunteer to bring 2 dozen bagels or so? sandwich stuff - there's a little peanut butter and jam and stuff up there, but i don't know how old it is. thursday d ---------- pasta of woody sauce of chris salad of brooke garlic bread of brooke - elite!! friday b -------- leftovers, cereal, porrige? yay! and dishes. many many dishes. :) Stuff to bring: -------------- woody: pasta, a couple litres of coke, cheese, lots of cheese. chris and michelle: pasta sauce stuff - let us know what you need from us, too.. tove jenna and megan: brooke: salad stuff rowan and francois: niki and lindsay: myk and anna: milk, cereal (i'm buying rice krispies if no one says i should do otherwise.), eggs, bread other stuff ----------- a flat of nestea from costco. i'm not kidding. chicken from costco? what are we bbqing? what else from costco? i'll make a trip. i've got a cooler that might fit in the back of my small minivan (haven't checked yet) stuff that's up there --------------------- salt, pepper, sugar, a bunch of spices, hot chocolate mix, margarine, elite virgin olive oil, flour, a lot of canned stuff so we won't die if we get snowed in. (or we'll die 24 hours later, anyway.), there is a bit of cheese, too. yeaaah. ("c'mon, just scrape the mold off!") canned salmon. lots of it. bran flakes. stuff that we can get on the way -------------------------------- we _can_ make a pitstop at the supervalue or whatever in sechelt for last minute stuff WHAT ELSE??? WHAT ARE WE MISSING??? sleeping -------- bring a sleeping bag (and a foamy if you're unwilling to fight for a bed), the bedding/pillows up there scare me in a big way. money ----- bring money for the ferry ($10) and emergency food purchases (and to reimburse the food buyers/bringers.) stuff ----- well, i think the current plan is to go up on the 31st, probably morning/noon or so.. (this is a wednesday) debauchery that night. Thursday we can throw the outboard engine on my boat and zoom across to pender hill. it's a nice short hike and there's a great view from the top and stuff. it's elite. And come home on friday morning after breakfast... there's no tv up there (yay!), and i'll bring my stereo so bring cds and tapes and stuff.. and someone should synchonize their watch with PST.. heh. directions ---------- phone number: 1-604-883-9795 take the freeway all the way through westvan to horseshoe bay - take the langdale/gibsons/sunshine coast ferry. when you get to the other side, follow the mass of cars and/or the signs saying this way to the highway/sechelt. it takes someone who is familiar with the road about 55 minutes to get to the cabin from the ferry terminal. it will take you longer. when the signs say slow to X going around this curve, they are not joking, especially the ones that say slow to 20 km/h. you will pass by Roberts Creek, and then get to sechelt. follow the signs and go straight through, you will have to turn left at a stoplight, and then just keep following the highway. you will pass halfmoon bay and secret cove (it's not very secret - there's a sign that says you're there). You might see a sign saying maderia park unincorporated or something like that. you will see a large billboard/map type thing of pender harbour in front of you as you go around a curve to the left. 3 miles past this is francis peninsula road. there's an opening in the landscape, a lumber yard, a video store, and a pizza place on the right. turn left on francis peninsula road. Look at your odometer - apperantly the turnoff for the cabin is 3.5 miles from the road which is 5.6 kms. drive some more. this road is a lot more fun, it has more ups and downs. relax and take it easy and don't take the turns too fast. keep going on the main road, follow the yellow line. you will go over a bridge. keep going. you are now on francis peninsula/beaver island. keep going for a while. after a bunch of turns and stuff (about 5-10 minutes worth) you will get to a large valley type thing in the road (ie, it goes downhill and then uphill, at the bottom of this valley type thing is a drivewayesque turnoff on the right. the address on the thing is: 4183 (Francis Peninsula Road) go down this turnoff VERY SLOWLY. KEEP TO THE RIGHT. you'll do a sharp turn to the right. keep going down the driveway. you will see a white and green house in front of you. park! here you are! (if you keep going around to the left, you'll end up at our neighbors place. don't do that. they're scary.) ---------------- --- "mr. burroughs, mr. burroughs!! save some for me!! mr. burroughs! can i lick the spoon mr. burroughs? please let me lick the spoon! awwww...." mike white michaelw@unixg.ubc.ca www.myk.home.ml.org 6045246040
